AI stock trading bot

An AI stock trading bot that runs your rules on Alpaca

Describe how you trade US stocks and ETFs and Nick builds the bot: it reads price bars, checks the news, places orders on your Alpaca account and tells you what it did. Start on an Alpaca paper account, then switch to live when the rules hold up.

Stock trading bots you can build today

Each one starts on an Alpaca paper account. Copy a prompt, swap the ticker or size, and Nick builds it.

SPY trend follower

Hold SPY while it trades above its 50-day average and step aside when it drops below.

Ask Nick
"Every weekday, 30 minutes before the US market close, read the daily bars for SPY. If SPY is above its 50-day moving average and I hold none, buy $1,000 of SPY on my Alpaca paper account. If it is below and I hold some, sell the position. Email me every order."

Mag 7 dip buyer with a bracket

Buy sharp daily drops in the largest tech names with the exit rules set in the same order.

Ask Nick
"Every hour on weekdays, read the hourly bars for AAPL, MSFT, NVDA, AMZN, GOOGL, META and TSLA. If any of them is down more than 4% on the day, buy $500 of it on my Alpaca paper account with a stop-loss 5% below the entry and a take-profit 8% above. Text me each order."

NVDA news watcher

Hear about material NVDA news within the hour, with the price move next to it.

Ask Nick
"Every 30 minutes, search X for posts with the $NVDA cashtag from the accounts I pick and read the latest headlines from an RSS feed. Have a model decide whether any of it is material news. If it is, send me a Telegram alert with a short summary and the last hour of NVDA price bars. Do not place any trades."

How it works

From a trading idea to a running stock bot

  • Describe the bot: the tickers, the rule, the size and how you want to hear about it.
  • Nick builds the workflow and shows it to you before anything runs.
  • Connect an Alpaca paper account and run it on a schedule, from every few minutes to once a month.
  • When you are ready, connect your live Alpaca account and keep the same rules.

Orders on Alpaca

The order types you already use

Nick trades US stocks and ETFs on your own Alpaca account, live or paper. Your funds stay with Alpaca.

  • Market, limit, stop, stop-limit and trailing stop orders, with GTC, IOC, FOK or DAY.
  • Stop-loss and take-profit attached to the entry as a bracket.
  • Size in shares, in dollars, as a percent of your portfolio, or by the dollars you are willing to risk.
  • The Portfolio node reads your Alpaca positions, balances, orders and PnL.

Stock data

Price bars, news and social signal in one workflow

  • Stocks Data pulls historical OHLCV bars for US equities from Databento, at 1-minute, 1-hour or 1-day resolution, for up to 10 tickers per run.
  • Search X by cashtag, keyword or the accounts you pick, and read any RSS news feed.
  • Put an LLM step in the workflow to read the data and give a structured decision.
  • Send the result to email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, SMS or a phone call.
